LIVING HERITAGE

Biodiversity Plans

Strategic planning frameworks guiding the conservation and sustainable use of KwaZulu-Natal's biodiversity.

WHO WE ARE

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife is committed to conserving the province's rich biodiversity while offering world-class ecotourism experiences. As custodians of protected areas, we ensure nature thrives for generations to come.

CONSERVATION PLANNING

Biodiversity Plans

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife develops and implements a suite of biodiversity plans that guide conservation action across the province. These plans identify areas of critical ecological importance, set priorities for species protection, and provide land-use guidelines that balance development with conservation. They form the scientific foundation for spatial planning, environmental assessment, and protected area management in KwaZulu-Natal.

Three core planning frameworks drive Ezemvelo's approach: Biodiversity Spatial Plans that map Critical Biodiversity Areas and guide land-use decisions; Biodiversity Management Plans legally recognised under the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (NEMBA) for priority species including rhinos, vultures, and cycads; and Biodiversity Monitoring Plans that track the status of key indicator species and ecosystems over time.
