CONSERVATION SCIENCE

Species Monitoring Programmes

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife leads a range of conservation monitoring programmes designed to track and protect the province's most vulnerable species. These programmes combine cutting-edge technology — including GPS tracking, camera traps, aerial surveys, and live-streaming nest cameras — with decades of field expertise to generate the scientific data needed for effective conservation management.

From the iconic rhinos of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park to the critically endangered Wattled Crane and the ancient sea turtles nesting along the iSimangaliso coast, each programme represents a long-term commitment to species recovery and habitat protection. Ezemvelo works in close partnership with organisations such as the Endangered Wildlife Trust, Project Rhino KZN, the KZN Crane Foundation, and the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa.
